Old Becomes New, Taste Tradition.

A Word from Jeff & Terri

It was October 2012 and Terri and I found a cute little cafe in Portland, Maine to get a home-cooked breakfast.  We glanced over at the chalkboard of specials and noticed a very curious "Lavender Lemonade Mead" at the bottom.  Little did we know that those three little words would change our lives.

I was very fortunate that my degree from Rutgers University in Microbiology prepared me for an adventure in home brewing but had no idea that we soon would cover our home and work with bottles and experiments.  What started off as a curiosity gradually turned into a real project and eventually Terri and I looked at each other and said "Let's do this!" It's been a crazy ride since 2012 but would not trade it for anything in this world.  Now it's time to let our little baby loose.

I had no idea that the journey we started in 2012 would take us from experimental bottles all over our kitchen and basement to a full demolition and resurrection of an old roofing building.  After four long years of going from idea to creation (and may days of blood, sweat and tears) we are more than over-joyed to finally present Liquid Alchemy Beverages.

I love to cook and experiment with new flavors which was my release from the sometimes dreary world of tax accounting! When we started experimenting and home brewing I was immediately hooked. My entrepreneurial spirit exploded and was thrilled when we decide to go pro.  Its been a long, fascinating road and we learn something new every day.  My favorite part is sharing what we've learned and sharing our meads and ciders.

In the year of 2019 we were very busy experimenting and making many smaller batches with funky fruits and spices and also playing with barrel-aging and made some good relationships with Painted Stave Distillery in Smyrna DE and with Northeast Barrel Co in Lansdale PA. We have worked with Whiskey,  Bourbon,  Brandy, Gin and Rum barrels and continue to this day. Midway through 2019 we sent a case of mead bottles out to the prestigious Mead Free or Die competition run by Moonlight Meadery in New Hampshire. Liquid Alchemy won a gold medal and 3 silver medals and was named the "2019 Meadery of the Year". We were truly honored.

As we all know,  2020 was a year that changed the world and there were businesses who decided to refocus and try even harder and Liquid Alchemy was one of those places. We tried harder than ever to make the best quality products and clean floor to ceiling and get as many pieces upgraded as possible. We also entered 2 of the biggest competitions in the US in BOTH the hard cider and mead categories and see where we faired with the best of the best. Well, in the hard cider world, we won with Deeply-Rooted one of the 15 finest hard ciders in the US and won one of a handful of Platinum medals. In the mead world, we won with Bourbon-Barrel-Aged Thai-Grr one of the top 10 meads in the US and won one of a handful of Gold Medals. While 2020 left many people shaking their heads in disbelief, we were also shaking our heads and very  blessed to have our products rewarded in such a high esteem in BOTH the hard cider and mead realms.

On to 2021. As a continuation of 2020 and the game changing pandemic and aftermath, we continued to steer our ship as well as we could and sent just 2 of our hard ciders into the famous NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL BEVERAGE COMPETITION and were pleasantly surprised to win 2 medals, a silver for our CINNICAL  specialty cider and a bronze for our In-CORE-Rigible traditional hard cider, and with the combination of medals was awarded the "2021 Delaware Cider Producer of the Year". Blown away again
